Pastor was beaten into a coma by youths after he refused to allow masquerade in church.

A minor incident occurred in a church in Kogi, when youths assaulted a clergyman for refusing to allow them to follow their custom.

Pastor Michael Samson, the clergy in charge of United Evangelical Church in Iyano community, Ibaji Local Government Area, Kogi State, was beaten to coma by a group of around 20 enraged youths on Monday night, March 1.

According to reports, the incident occurred around 11 p.m. on Monday night.

According to Kogi In Emphasis, the trouble began when the pastor refused the youths entry to the church during the day while they were holding a ceremony in their masquerade.

The youths returned at night with guns, angered by the pastor’s defiance, and assaulted him while he was sleeping.

The pastor was battered into a coma and is currently being treated at the Idah General Hospital.
According to a pastor who told Tribune about the incident:

“They wanted to perform for the gods of the land, which we in Igala call ‘Ane.’ They should leave because, according to the priest, this is not the best place to do it.

They returned in the middle of the night, fully armed with deadly weapons, to beat him to Coma.” They had risen to a total of 20 people. We’re currently hoping that nothing bad happens to our brother, who is currently in critical condition.
