DMX, the rapper and actor known for classic hip-hop songs and a gruff delivery, has died at the age of 50, according to his family.
This came after his manager denied in the early hours of the morning that the rapper was alive and on life support.
According to a statement from the hospital in White Plains, New York, the Grammy-nominated singer died after suffering “catastrophic cardiac arrest.”
On April 2, he was rushed there from his house.
According to his family, DMX, whose real name was Earl Simmons, died with relatives by his side after being on life support for several days.
“We are profoundly saddened to announce that our loved one, DMX, born Earl Simmons, died at the age of 50 at White Plains Hospital with his family by his side after being put on life support for the past few days,” his family said in a statement.
“Earl was a valiant warrior who fought until the finish. We treasure the times we spent with him because he loved his family with all of his heart.
Earl’s music influenced countless people all over the world, and his legendary legacy will live on in perpetuity. During this extremely trying time, we appreciate all of the love and encouragement we’ve received.
