Chelsea lead trainer Thomas Tuchel communicated his bliss with his side’s exhibition against a cautious Atletico Madrid side, as the Blues pulled out a 1-0 Champions League win on Tuesday.
Tuchel said the Blues foreseen their rivals may set up protectively and was glad that they figured out how to get through Atletico’s dull back line.
Addressing BT Sport, the Chelsea manager said:
Fabulous outcome, incredible objective. Merited.
We needed to overwhelm in the adversaries’ half, to never lose fixation, not to do any simple slip-ups and consistently know about speedy counterattacks for all their quality.
It was an extremely focused presentation – a merited shut-out. This is the difficult work, a collaboration – the reason for a major success.
We knew it [Atletico pressing their defence] could occur. We told the folks on the off chance that it happens perhaps it’s our quality and the regard. We needed to be daring and play in their half.
We realized they were prepared to endure with eight individuals in the crate. The aim was to keep the force high. This is the thing that we did excellent. We never let them inhale or come out for counterattacks. We have a major compensation with this outcome.
This is perhaps the hardest test to open a guard like Atletico.”
