After Chelsea’s 2-1 Premier League win over Manchester City on Saturday, Ian Wright described Chelsea striker Timo Werner as “lazy.”
Chelsea beat Man City at the Etihad Stadium thanks to goals from Hakim Ziyech and Marcos Alonso, as Raheem Sterling’s first-half goal was insufficient to earn a point for Pep Guardiola’s side.
Wright reacted by saying that he was pleased by Chelsea’s success against Man City, but that Werner was always sloppy with his positioning and running in behind during the match.
Wright said on BBC’s Match of the Day, “I think Timo Werner is having a good season.”
“Coming to Chelsea under pressure to score goals and then miss opportunities…
“You should take a look at his runs. He wants to get back to the side here. He refuses to move to the left.
“He has a lot of space. For me, that’s just laziness; it’s laziness at work. He’s going almost offside. He’ll get more chances once he figures that out, so he’ll have to be more clinical.”
